Collection Development Committee Goals and Objectives

CDC Charge

2007-2008 Goals and Objectives

  1. Work with the Joint Steering Committee for Shared Collections to help guide the California Digital Library on issues related to the development of shared digital collections, including vendor negotiations, business models, licensing terms, and future directions. Review strategies for budgeting, cost sharing, and co-investment in a time of constricting budgets for collections.
  2. Develop and promote strategies and infrastructures for collaborative development and management of shared print collections. Identify issues and goals for building a UC Libraries collection. Continue to work with the CDL Director of Collections and the new Shared Print Manager to set priorities, develop decision-making mechanisms and cost share models, and implement projects.
  3. Refine scenarios for system-wide negotiations for transformative and sustainable licensing of electronic journals for 2005-2009.
  4. Refine criteria and procedures for the annual Blackwell/Elsevier title adjustment process.
  5. Work with CDL on issues and policies related to both mass digitization of collections and to digital preservation.
  6. Work with CDL Director of Collections in developing support for tier 2 licenses.
  7. Consult with the UC Libraries Scholarly Communication Officers Group (SCO) on ways to synchronize investment strategies to help transform publishing models.
  8. Develop and implement strategies for collaborative efforts to select and deselect content for our campuses.
  9. Encourage the collaborative work of the bibliographer groups to build shared collections through active communication and consultation.
  10. Support the Preservation Advisory Group and advise SOPAG on issues related to preservation planning.
  11. Support the Heads of Special Collections in their work on digitization projects.
  12. Work with the UC Archivists Council to provide direction and to develop recommendations on electronic records management issues and e-dissertations.
  13. Respond to all issues raised by SOPAG and other ACGs that need a collection development perspective.
  14. Develop recommendations on policies related to the feasibility and options for future de-duplication of holdings between SRLF and NRLF.
