UC Heads of Public Services
November 26, 2007
Conference Call

Present:  Barclay, Dawson, Farley, Frenkel, Hughes, Kautzman, Palmer, Persily, Stirling, Watstein

1.  VDX authentication requirement.

Laine Farley will review the timeline for implementation of the requirement for off-campus users to authenticate when they access "My ILL" (VDX).  Frenkel requested a review of the possibility of single sign-on and its potential for making cross-campus services easier to access.

2. IM Task Force

Gail Persily will advise the IM Task Force to recommend whatever scenario they think best for implementation of the IM pilot project. HOPS will defer making any decisions on the structure of the implementation until the report is received and digested.

3. SharePoint

Hughes will continue to post documents to SharePoint. Watstein will re-send the instructions for HOPS members to access the site. Those who have difficulty accessing SharePoint should call Leslie McMichael and ask her to help troubleshoot. McMichael is the Assistant to Susan Parker, Deputy University Librarian and CFO and Assistant to Terry Ryan, AUL for the UCLA Electronic Library; she can be reached at 310.206.9774.

4. Information Literacy Assessment

UCLA had an inquiry about UC’s that are conducting large-scale information literacy assessments. Palmer reported on plans (emerging from a WASC workshop) at UCI. Watstein will send a query to the HOPS list to catch all HOPS’ members on this. Hughes will send to Watstein the UCUES questions that pertain to information literacy.

5. OCLC Implementation Team

In considering the opportunity for HOPS to meet with the OCLC Implementation Team, it was suggested that we develop a clear goal or outcome for the meeting before scheduling such an event. HOPS members are asked to consider for discussion during a December conference all what the goal of such a meeting would be. There is also the possibility of a conference call or videoconference call, especially during the spring 2008 HOPS meeting.

6. Hughes will schedule a December conference call only if the ULs take action on the “5/3 most promising ideas” at their November meeting.
