HOPS
Conference Call
February 14, 2008
Present: Barclay, Dawson, Farley, Frenkel, Friedman, Gomez, Hughes, Kautzman, Palmer, Persily, Stirling, Watstein
1. Most Promising Idea Preliminary Report
Final edits were proposed. Hughes will send to SOPAG by EOB Feb. 14, 2008
2. IM Task Force Report.
Gail Persily will thank the TF for its thorough review of the issues and request some follow-up information for the HOPS meeting in Merced, March 6-7, 2008.
3. Mass Digitization FAQ
It was suggested that one new question/answer be added to the FAQ relating to the subject coverage of each project. Laine will make the necessary changes and check on the status of the “Quick Comparison Chart.” However HOPS recommended that the FAQ be mounted in Inside CDL for library staff use as quickly as possible, even if the chart is not yet ready.
4. Systemwide “Database of Databases”
Discussion continued of Barclay’s proposal for the development of one systemwide list of databases that includes Tiers 2 & 3 resources for each campus. Farley and Barclay will work on a Needs Assessment/Use Cases for the project and bring their deliberations to the HOPS meeting in Merced.
5. UC/OCLC Pilot Update
Kautzman updated HOPS on the public service issues related to the upcoming pilot project launch. Each campus will be strongly encouraged to have a search box on its campus webpage that links to the “xxxx.worldcat.org” database at OCLC. Some pilot project search pages are already available, but HOPS members were reminded that the database for the pilot will not be complete. A “launch packet” will be distributed by the end of February to support campus planning.
6. East Asian Referece Cooperative
Background on the proposal for an East Asian Reference Cooperative and an update on eLearning will be provided by Watstein via email.
