Present: Heidi Schmidt (San Francisco), Ralph Moon (Berkeley),Terry Toy (Riverside), John Vasi (Santa Barbara), Geri Ingram (San Diego),David Walker (UCOP), Diane Bisom (Irvine), Hannah Walker (LAUC), Gail Yokote(Davis), Terry Ryan (Los Angeles), Robert White (Santa Cruz, April 3 only).
Agenda:
Electronic Resource Management: There was an extended discussionabout electronic resource management. While shared acquisition and catalogingissues have been addressed system-wide, there is a need for discussionabout ongoing processing and maintenance of electronic resources. LTAGdiscussed several areas of interest/concern in this regard, including PubMedLinkout; troubleshooting access problems (proxies); campus efforts to organizeelectronic resource support groups and appointments of electronic resourcemanagers; an interest in sharing best practices; methods of generatingelectronic resource lists (database-driven web sites). Apparently someyears ago there was a meeting that included a wide cross-section of HOTS,HOPS, and HOSS representatives. It was suggested a similar meeting couldhave value now.LTAG plans to meet at UCLA in the fall.Communication Issues: LTAG members are not uniformly informed aboutactivities that concern library systems groups. At our meeting, examplesincluded PubMed Linkout and the consortial borrowing initiative. It wassuggested that whenever a system-wide group is formed with CDLT representation,an LTAG participant should also be included. It was also suggested LTAGcould coordinate reports about technical activities many UC libraries areengaged in, such as wireless network access, loaner laptop programs, formationof electronic resource management groups, etc.
Terrry Ryan will communicate with LTAG members via email regarding thePrivacy task group because there wasn't enough time for a complete discussionat the meeting.
