There are two main ways to navigate to the page you’d like to edit. You may login to WordPress at https://libraries.universityofcalifornia.edu/user-login/, click “Pages” in the left-hand navigation menu and search for your webpage. Or, after logging in, you may click the “UC Libraries” link in the top left of the screen and navigate to your webpage using UC Libraries site navigation. Once on your desired page, click “Edit Page” in the navigation bar at the top of the page.
Some of the topics covered on this page are shown in the video below.
The block toolbar
Existing content on a page is contained in one or more blocks. To edit, click anywhere within the desired content block to place the cursor in that block. This action will also make the block toolbar appear directly above the block.
You may change the block type by clicking the leftmost icon in the toolbar. In the figure above, it is the paragraph icon.
From left to right, the toolbar’s controls are the following when working with a paragraph block:
- Change block type or style (currently paragraph)
- Drag
- Move up or move down
- Change text alignment (currently left-align)
- Bold
- Italic
- Link
- More
- Options
Note that the block toolbar will offer different tools depending on the type of content that is in the block.
Copy and paste content from another source
Pasting text from another source into a block is straightforward. The editor will automatically select the paragraph block type for you when you paste text. If you paste an image, the image will seem to appear on the page editing screen. However, you will still need to upload this image manually to the Media Library.
The video below shows how to upload an image directly from the edit page. Alternatively, you may upload images or files within the Media Library.
Please note that your page should meet accessibility requirements. See “Create accessible content and documents” for more information.
Create a hyperlink
To create a hyperlink,
- Highlight the text you would like to link.
- Click the Link icon in the block toolbar.
- Type the title of the UC Libraries webpage for links within the UC Libraries website, or paste the URL of the external target webpage or document you’d like to link to. (The interface will search for and auto-complete internal page titles.)
- Activate the “Open in a new tab” switch, if desired.
- Press return on your keyboard.
Clicking an existing hyperlink will open the hyperlink editing window.
Add a block
To add a new block of content,
- Place the cursor in the block directly above where you want the new block to appear.
- Hover over the invisible bottom border of that block to make the “Add block” icon appear.
- Click the “+” icon to bring up the “Add block” selector.
- Select (click) or search for the type of block you would like to add. The most common block options (e.g., paragraph, heading, list) appear below the search box.
Embed a video
Note that your hosted video’s privacy setting must be “public” or “embeddable”.
