SLASIAC Subcommittee on Library Planning and Budgets
As part of its revised charge, the Systemwide Library and Scholarly Information Advisory Committee (SLASIAC) is responsible for providing oversight for library programs and services that make use of systemwide funds to provide library services on a multi-campus or systemwide basis. SLASIAC is also charged with providing budget and planning oversight for the California Digital Library (CDL).
In order to carry out these responsibilities, a Subcommittee on Library Planning and Budgets, chaired by the SLASIAC Chair, is established as of Oct. 6, 2011, to:
- Review the Council of University Librarians’ annual assessment of the UC libraries’ existing shared programs and services portfolio – including the budget, operating plans and other financial reports – and advise on CoUL recommendations regarding program priorities and system-wide resource needs.
- Review proposals for new shared programs and services developed by CoUL—whether these benefit all ten campuses or only some subset thereof—and advise on the costs and benefits of the proposed program or service, including the funding needed to launch and sustain it.
- Review the CDL’s long-term plans for investment and new program and service operations.
- Annually review the CDL’s updated strategic plans and operational objectives, and measure accomplishments against objectives stated for the prior year.
- Review and recommend approval to SLASIAC (and through it to the Provost and COVC) of the annual budget for CDL.
The Subcommittee shall meet three times per year, at the discretion of the Chair.

- CDL Executive Director
- Council of University Librarians (CoUL) Chair
