YOUR PRIVACY AND THE LIBRARY
The University of California libraries are committed to protecting
your privacy to the greatest extent possible, subject to provisions of
state and federal law. We believe privacy is an essential element of intellectual
and academic freedom. While we gather a variety of information on patrons,
even if briefly, in the normal course of providing services, our library
policies and ethical considerations require the library treat personally
identifiable information and reference contacts in confidence to protect
the privacy of our users.
The UC Libraries take the collection of personally identifiable information
required to provide services very seriously. It is our goal to only keep personal
information for the shortest amount of time necessary to complete transactions
or provide service. Access to personal information is restricted to library
staff who need it to conduct library business. Personal information is
never used for commercial purposes and it will not be revealed to any
third party except by such process, order, or subpoena authorized by law.
The library is supported in this goal by national, state and local laws,
as well as through University of California policies.
On this page you will find links to Privacy Legislation, UC Policies,
links for further research, and contact information should you have questions
concerning your specific University Library.
