ALA Bill of Rights
The American Library Association has a long history of supporting intellectual freedom as it is embodied in the Library Bill of Rights, the Association's basic policy on free access to libraries and library materials. The goal of ALA's Office for Intellectual Freedom is to educate librarians and the general public about the nature and importance of intellectual freedom in libraries.

Electronic Frontier Foundation
Based in San Francisco, the EFF is a donor-supported membership organization
working to protect the fundamental rights of citizens regardless of technology;
to educate the press, policymakers and the general public about civil
liberties issues related to technology; and to act as a defender of those
liberties. Among their various activities, the EFF challenges legislation,
initiates and defends court cases preserving individuals' rights, launches
global public campaigns, introduces proposals and papers, hosts educational
events, engages the press, and publishes a comprehensive archive of digital
civil liberties information.
Electronic Privacy Information Center
EPIC is a public interest research center in Washington, D.C. It was established
in 1994 to focus public attention on emerging civil liberties issues and
to protect privacy, the First Amendment, and constitutional values.
Freedom to Read Protection Act of 2003
This legislation, sponsored by Congressman Bernie Sanders (I-VT), would
exempt libraries and booksellers from provisions of the USA Patriot Act
that allow the federal government to access library or bookstore records
without having to get a traditional search warrant.
