SOPAG invites proposals for workshops that give UC libraries’ staff the opportunity to meet and discuss focused issues and learn key professional competencies in areas of concern to the UC libraries. Proposals will be evaluated for 1) clarity of the proposal; 2) relevance of the proposed workshop to systemwide goals for enhancing library services and collections; 3) relative importance and significance in relation to other workshop proposals; and 4) overall cost in the context of available funding. Proposals should first be discussed with relevant All Campus Groups and Task Forces to evaluate appropriateness to UC libraries. Groups are encouraged to alert SOPAG when workshop proposals are in development to get early feedback. Groups should submit completed workshop proposals to the Chair of SOPAG two weeks prior to the next scheduled SOPAG meeting.

How to propose a workshop

Proposals for workshops should be one or two pages in length and should contain:

• The tentative title of the workshop.

• A brief description of the workshop. Please include a statement of purpose and the reasons why it is of interest at this time. Also include educational objectives, i.e., special knowledge or skills that participants will gain by attending the workshop.

• The name(s) of the sponsoring group(s).

• The names of the planning committee and the person who has been designated as the contact person.

• A preliminary agenda and format for the workshop.

• The tentative date(s) of workshop.

• The tentative location(s) of the workshop.

• A description of the specific audience to which the workshop is geared. Please include the expected number of participants. (Please note that SOPAG will allocate the available number of participant slots among the campuses according to a formula based on the size of staff at each campus).

• A brief description of the selection process for attendees.

• An evaluation plan for the workshop.
