This document provides some options for creating your library's privacy statement. It is only a sample and must be modified to represent the actual policies of your library.
Your privacy while using the University of California, [campus] library is an important element of your intellectual and academic freedom.
Where it is necessary for the library to identify users, it is our goal to gather only the minimum information necessary and to retain that information only as long as is needed to complete the transaction.
The library is supported in this goal by national and state-level laws [link] as well as through U.C. and campus policies [link].
Where the library licenses with vendors for digital information products, every attempt is made to include user information protections in the license agreement.
The library web site links out to other sites and services that are not contained nor controlled within the library's online systems. The practices of these sites are not under the control of the library. You must read the privacy statements at these sites to learn of their privacy practices.
This next section is for libraries that do have privacy policies available through their web site.
The library has the following privacy policies in place:
We are aware that the recent computerization of library and information services has the potential to affect the privacy of our users. The library is currently conducting a "privacy audit" of the computer systems in use to assure that we continuing our tradition of protecting your privacy while using the University of California, [campus], library.
Once the audit is done, the privacy statement can be revised be replaced by a link to a summary of the audit results.
