Summer is here in full swing, and we managed to publish our Q2 newsletter just under deadline. It also happened to be the same day as oral arguments in Internet Archive’s appeal of the lawsuit brought against it by publishers. Those who could use a short refresher on the library lending of digitized in-copyright works are in luck. Katie Fortney, CDL’s copyright specialist, collaborated with us to create this article which provides background information and a summary of related UC projects.
In this newsletter, we also celebrate the UC Riverside Library’s completion of an eight year project to digitize library volumes as part of the Google Books Library Project. And Dear Zephir digs in to explain exactly how records are clustered together (or not) in the HathiTrust Catalog.
Happy summer everyone!
