January 2021 Project Updates

Happy New Year! We hope the holiday break provided you an opportunity to rest, rejuvenate, spend time with family and focus on personal interests.

As we flip the calendar to 2021, we enter the final seven months of the SILS implementation phase leading up to go live on July 27, 2021. Among the initiatives underway or beginning in early 2021 are:

  • Thorough data load testing across all campuses
  • Alma and Primo VE training
  • Developing an operational shared governance structure
  • Discovery layer configuration and harmonization customizations
  • Initial end-user outreach

An important Q1 decision is the finalization of a patron-facing name for SILS to use during library instruction, reference requests and general campus outreach. Next Monday, Jan. 11, cohort members and SILS News subscribers will receive a survey requesting feedback on the SILS end-user name, put forth by the End-User Naming Subgroup (EUNS) and scheduled to be endorsed by the Working Group.

Finally, on Monday, Jan. 25 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., all UC Library staff are invited to attend the second quarterly town hall, held on Zoom (details below). In addition to hearing from project co-chairs Chris Shaffer and Günter Waibel, the event will feature a presentation by chairs of the Internal Training Subgroup.

Here’s to an incredibly productive start to 2021. As always, we invite you to explore the SILS Confluence wiki for ongoing progress. If you have any questions or comments, please contact AskSILS-L@listserv.ucop.edu.
